Wrestling with the Bible - w/ Rev. Anne Robertson

Date:

Speaker:
Rev. Anne Robertson
Like Jacob wrestling with God at the Jabbok River in Genesis 32, many who settle in to really read the Bible end up wrestling with portions of the text that seem offensive, obscure, or confusing.  Those who take the Bible literally have one way of dealing with these texts, but what about those of us who want to take the Bible seriously but not necessarily literally?  If we take the text seriously, we can't just dismiss those difficult passages and stories, but how do we fit them into the faith in a loving God that we proclaim?  How do we find truth in offensive words?  What does it mean to call these passages sacred?

At our December 6th  luncheon, MassBible Executive Director Rev. Anne Robertson lead a discussion on these issues and offered some guidance on how, like Jacob, we can wrestle with these texts and still come away with a blessing.
