Michael Willett Newheart
Michael Willett Newheart is Professor of New Testament Language and Literature at Howard University School of Divinity, where he has served since 1991. His books include “My Name is Legion”: The Story and Soul of the Gerasene Demoniac (Collegeville, MN: Liturgical Press, 2004), Word and Soul: A Psychological, Literary, and Cultural Reading of the Fourth Gospel (Collegeville, MN: Liturgical Press, 2001), and Wisdom Christology in the Fourth Gospel (San Francisco: Mellen Research University Press, 1992). Prior to coming to Howard, he taught at a college and four seminaries in Kansas City, and he served as a missionary in Costa Rica. Michael’s Ph.D. is from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is an ordained Baptist minister and a member of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers).
