Many people have seen a connection between Hannah's song and the song of Mary, the mother of Jesus, in Luke 1:46-55.
The joy of Hannah's song comes after her anguished prayer in the temple, when she begged God for a child. She was so distraught in her praying that the priest, Eli, thought she was drunk! Above is a depiction of that prayer by Marc Chagall.
