We've all seen the pictures. We've all heard the stories. We've all had our hearts broken by the Haitian disaster. Millions of us have sent funds to provide food, water, medical supplies, and many other basic necessities for those ravaged by the quake.
Even as we sustain the bodies of our Haitian brothers and sisters, there is also a need to sustain their souls. With the third largest Haitian population in the US, Massachusetts has many connections to Haiti. Many of those connections are churches who are now seeking to reach out with both material and spiritual aid. As has been reported, many of Haiti's churches were destroyed, yet people gather wherever and however they can to keep worship alive.
And that means Bibles. We have been receiving requests from Massachusetts congregations for Bibles to go to Haiti in far greater numbers than we can supply with our current funds. Just today we had a request for 5,000 French Bibles, of which we can only provide 200 at this moment. Can you help?
